Mochi is Japanese sticky rice cake used both in savory and sweet dishes. You can use different kind of filling such as peanut butter, green tea ice cream etc.

Why Red Bean Paste?

Actually the idea is from housemate. She loved to eat Mochi. When I went shopping with her, she will buy Mochi. At first we decided to cook traditional dessert(kuih) but the grated coconut seems to run out of out at the market we went. Because prior that we are busy shopping. So the idea of making Mochi pop up when we saw the canned Red Bean. Since, befor I used to make red bean paste so we decided to make Mochi. Perhaps most importantly, it’s SUPER easy to make. I'm shocked. I thought it is difficult to make. Basically anyone can make these. Which means you have absolutely no excuses.

How I get the Recipe?

My friend search in the internet. We are looking for the most simple, easy, tasty and not much ingredients. Finally we found in facebook Resepi Kuih Mochi. You can visit the link also to explore the recipe. Obviously we have to search for recipe since it is not local food. But, nowadays you can find Mochi anywhere in Malaysia. Night Market aka Pasar Malam also sell this dessert.

Nutrition Facts of Red Kidney Bean

Kidney beans are mainly composed of carbs and fiber, but are also a good source of protein. One cup of boiled kidney beans (177 g) contains approximately 15 grams of protein, accounting for 27% of the total caloric content. So this bean is a good choice for vegan since it among the richest sources of plant based protein.

Since the bean is high in fiber and protein, study found that the intake of bean can lower the risk of overweight and obesity. Beside that the bean also may improved blood sugar control and colon cancer prevention.

Steamed Red Bean Paste Bun

I and my friend decided to make "Pau" for the leftover red bean paste. Actually the technique to put the paste inside the dough/Mochi for both of them quite similar. Look at the shape also almost same right!. But in term of texture and taste is different even though we use the same filling.

Since I used the general wheat flour the colour of the "Pau" is a bit yellowish. You should use the "Pau" flour to get more whitish color.

I refer USDA for database for the nutrient information. 1 piece of bun(48g) provide you with 150kcal calories, 2g protein, 3.5g fat, 27g carbs, 1g fiber and 13g sugar. Actually the calories may differ according to how big the bun and the amount of filling.
